This page gives basic information about the On-line Buddhist Psychology Diploma program, an intensive 2+ year training course in Buddhist psychology & its therapeutic application.

The program has been running since the 1980s but was completely revised in 2021 to accommodate the possibilities of zoom and to include additional content. Earlier versions were offered by the Tariki Trust and the Amida Academy.

The course is currently led by a team of five tutors:
Dr David Brazier, (English, living in France), Dr Iris Dotan Katz (Israel), Dr Yaya De Andrade (Brazilian living in Canada), Natividad Gonzales (Spain), Kimiko Nita (Japan).

The start date for the programme is 1st February. The two current year groups (12 students each) are of many nationalities. The course language is English. We have accommodated Spanish speaking students who are not fluent in English. Applicants who do not speak English or Spanish can only be considered if there is a group of three or more.

The course consists of 16 six week units (called "Classroom"). Each provides written study material, some audio or video input, individual and group exercises. The content is extensive and involves much personal reflection as well as study. It requires a minimum of three hours per week, but there is scope for the material to profitably fill many more hours if desired.

The course covers the major psychological teachings of Buddhism and their practical application in therapy and in personal and social life.

Students

  • complete each Unit
  • work with experiential exercises and post comments on results
  • read each other's work, comment and discuss
  • consult with the tutors
  • attend tutor led seminars every two or three weeks

Here is how some students have spoken of the course:

Third Year Student:  As I near the end of the BP (Buddhist Psychology) course and reflect on how profoundly it has changed my life and my perspective on the world, I am filled with immense gratitude. It feels fortunate that I stumbled upon Dharmavidya and his teachings. The BP course has offered me a fresh perspective, one that has the potential to liberate individuals from the confines of self-imposed prisons, enabling them to embrace their humanity and live with compassion. Dharmavidya's insight that words (dharma) serve as the key to unlock these prisons resonates deeply with me. I sincerely wish for more people to have access to this key through the BP course, as it has the power to profoundly transform lives and bring about a deeper understanding of oneself and the world. Namo Amida Bu, so much gratitude.

Second Year Student: I would like to begin by expressing my gratitude for the opportunity to participate in this course. I am thankful for the incredible teachers and peers I have encountered, as well as the supportive environment that fosters love and companionship throughout this experience. Not only have I discovered new theories and approaches, but I have also delved deeper into my own personal journey, which, thanks to the course and the broader global sangha, has become more of a shared path. I deeply appreciate the confirmation of the course as an encounter.
